• Acura RL Cross-Compatibility Note (2005–2008): While the foundational J35A8 aluminum block and cylinder heads are identical to the 2nd Gen Acura RL motor, the oil pan configuration, oil pickup tube, side engine mount brackets, and transmission bellhousing stays differ significantly because the RL uses an SH-AWD layout. This engine is dressed and sold primarily as a direct drop-in replacement for the Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) Acura TL Type-S chassis.

Long Block Installation Notes

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION WARNING: The J35A8 is a high-compression "interference" engine with distinct electronic sensors. To protect your investment and maintain parts warranty protections, ensure your installer follows these rules:

1. Transfer USDM External Accessories & Type-S intake: This assembly is sold strictly as a Long Block (assembled block, cylinder heads, oil pan, and internal moving components). You MUST swap over your vehicle's original multi-stage intake manifold (featuring the Type-S emblem), fuel rails, injectors, exhaust downpipes, alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor.

2. Reuse Your Original Wiring & Sensors: JDM engine wiring harnesses are cut short during vehicle dismantling in Japan and are configured for right-hand drive architectures. Discard the JDM harness and route your original USDM engine wiring loom. Additionally, transfer your original vehicle sensors (Crankshaft Position, Camshaft Position, Knock, and Water Temperature sensors) to guarantee error-free plug-and-play communication with your domestic factory ECU.

3. Swap Your Oil Filter Housing: You may need to transfer your original USDM oil filter housing base over to the replacement JDM block to ensure your vehicle's factory oil pressure switches and external oil cooler plumbing hook up flawlessly to your chassis.

4. Mandatory Timing Belt Maintenance: While the engine is resting safely on an engine stand, you MUST install a brand-new timing belt, timing belt tensioner pulley, idler pulley, and a new water pump. Timing components on JDM engines sit in storage and should always be renewed before drop-in assembly.

5. Fluid & Tune-Up Protocols: Replace the front crankshaft seal, rear main seal, and install fresh valve cover gaskets. Refill the block using premium 5W-20 or 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil alongside a new OEM oil filter. Install a fresh set of NGK Laser Iridium (IZFR6K11) spark plugs to ensure crisp ignition, and fill the cooling loop with fresh Genuine Honda Type-2 Blue Coolant.
