This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

Compatibility Note: This is the 3.6L EZ36. It is not a direct replacement for the 2006–2007 Subaru B9 Tribeca equipped with the 3.0L EZ30R engine without significant wiring and ECU modifications.
To ensure 100% compatibility and a "first-turn" start using your original ECU, professional Subaru technicians recommend the following "External Swap" steps:
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifolds. JDM versions may have different vacuum port configurations or lack specific emissions bungs required for North American OBDII compliance.
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your Tribeca’s chassis bulkheads or fuse box.
Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors to the JDM block. Subaru electronics are highly sensitive to sensor voltage variances; using your original "known-good" sensors ensures perfect timing synchronization.
Oil Pan & Level Sensor: Inspect the JDM oil pan. If your USDM model is equipped with an oil level sensor and the JDM unit is not, you must transfer your original USDM Oil Pan and Sensor.
Water Housing: Swap your original USDM Water Outlet and Thermostat Housing to ensure all radiator and heater hoses align perfectly with your North American cooling system.
Oil Cooler: If your Tribeca is equipped with a factory tow package, ensure you transfer your USDM External Oil Cooler setup to the JDM block.
