  • Compatibility Note: This is the Atkinson Cycle hybrid engine. It is not compatible with the standard 1.8L 2ZR-FE found in the non-hybrid Toyota Corolla or Matrix.


JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and a seamless "Plug-and-Play" installation into your USDM Lexus, professional installers recommend the following "External Swap" steps:

  1. Intake Manifold & EGR System: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and EGR Valve/Cooler. JDM versions may lack specific North American emissions ports. Pro Tip: Clean or replace your original EGR cooler to prevent the carbon buildup that leads to head gasket failure.

  2. Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors to the JDM block to ensure the ECU receives familiar signals.

  3. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Lexus Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your chassis fuse box or hybrid inverter.

  4. Exhaust Manifold: Swap your original USDM Exhaust Manifold to maintain proper oxygen sensor and catalytic converter alignment.

  5. Water Pump: The 2ZR-FXE uses an Electric Water Pump. Inspect the JDM unit; if you are over 100k miles on your chassis, we recommend installing a new OEM electric pump during the swap.

  6. Transaxle Damper: Use your original hybrid Flywheel/Damper currently on your vehicle to ensure the smooth transition between gasoline and electric motor power.
