The UA80E 8-speed is a highly computerized transmission. To ensure a seamless "Plug-and-Play" installation into a USDM Camry, professional installers must follow these steps:
Sensor Transfer: You must swap your original USDM Input and Output Speed Sensors from your old transmission to the JDM unit. This ensures the USDM TCM (Transmission Control Module) receives accurate data.
Neutral Safety Switch: Transfer your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor) to the JDM unit to ensure the shift linkage aligns perfectly with your cabin selector.
Wiring Harness: Always reuse your original USDM transmission wiring harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and may have different pinouts that could trigger a Check Engine Light.
Cooler Maintenance: Thoroughly flush the transmission cooler lines and radiator before installation. Contamination from the previous unit is the #1 cause of replacement transmission failure.
TCM Reset: After installation, we highly recommend performing a "Transmission Adaptive Learning" reset using a professional scan tool (Toyota Techstream) to calibrate the new unit to your driving style.
Fluid Fill: Use only Toyota ATF WS. Check the fluid level at the exact operating temperature as specified in the factory service manual.
