Vehicle Fitment

This transmission serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:

• Toyota 4Runner 4WD (V6 Models): 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995

• Compatibility Note: Specifically for the 3.0L V6. It will not bolt up to the 2.4L (22R-E) engine without a bellhousing swap, as the 4-cylinder models typically used the lighter-duty W56 transmission.

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure a perfect fit and factory-spec functionality, professional Toyota technicians recommend these steps:

• Shifter Assembly: JDM manual transmissions may have slightly different shifter stick bends. We recommend reusing your original USDM 4Runner Shifter Levers and Housing to ensure the gears fall perfectly into your interior console layout.

• Transfer Case Configuration: JDM units usually include the chain-driven transfer case. Verify that the speedometer connection (Mechanical Cable vs. Electronic Sensor) and driveshaft flange patterns match your USDM shafts. If they differ, simply bolt your original USDM Transfer Case onto the JDM transmission.

• Electrical Switches: Transfer your original USDM Reverse Light Switch and 4WD Indicator Switch to the JDM unit. This ensures your dashboard 4WD light and reverse lights function without any wiring modifications.

• Clutch & Pilot Bearing: Since the transmission is out, always install a new clutch kit (236mm) and pilot bearing. This is the best time to ensure years of maintenance-free shifting.

• Fluid Service: Fill with high-quality 75W-90 GL-4 or GL-5 Gear Oil. For the best shifting experience in cold climates, a full synthetic gear oil is highly recommended for the R-series gearboxes.
