JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your WRX’s performance and emissions status, professional Subaru technicians recommend the following "External Swap" steps:

  1. Intake Manifold: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold (including all TGVs, fuel rails, and injectors). JDM versions often lack specific North American emissions components and vacuum routing required for your factory ECU.

  2. Exhaust Manifolds & Turbo: Please transfer your original USDM Turbocharger (TD04) and exhaust manifolds to ensure perfect fitment with your existing downpipe and intercooler setup.

  3. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and use different bulkhead connectors.

  4. Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors. Subaru electronics are highly sensitive; using your original "known-good" sensors prevent intermittent signal issues or Check Engine Light codes.

  5. Oil Pan & Pickup: Inspect the JDM oil pan. Depending on the donor chassis, you may need to transfer your original USDM WRX Oil Pan and Pickup Tube for proper subframe clearance.
