Vehicle Fitment

This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American D22 Generation models:

• Nissan Frontier: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004

• Trims: XE, SE (2.4L 4-Cylinder Models)

• Drive Type: 2WD and 4WD compatible.

• Chassis Cross-Compatibility: Also serves as a high-quality donor for 2000–2004 Nissan Xterra (2.4L models).

• Compatibility Note: This engine is for Truck/SUV applications and features the correct intake/oil pan configuration for the Frontier. It is not a direct swap for the Nissan 240SX without modifications.

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and a seamless "Plug-and-Play" installation into your USDM Frontier, professional installers recommend the following "External Swap" steps:

1. Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. JDM versions often differ in vacuum line routing and lack the specific EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) ports required for US emissions.

2. Distributor & Ignition: Transfer your original USDM Distributor and Spark Plug Wires. The JDM electrical plugs may differ, and using your original ignition system ensures perfect timing with your ECU.

3. Engine Sensors: Swap your original USDM Camshaft, Crankshaft, and Knock Sensors to the JDM block to prevent Check Engine Lights (CEL).

4. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are built for right-hand drive and will not reach your Frontier's battery or fuse box.

5. Oil Pan & Pickup: If your Frontier is 4WD, inspect the JDM oil pan. You may need to swap your original USDM Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure proper clearance with the front differential.

6. Water Housing: Swap your USDM thermostat housing and water outlets to ensure all heater hoses and radiator fans connect exactly as they did from the factory.
