USDM to JDM / Swap Guide (3S-GE BEAMS & J160)

Because the Toyota Altezza RS200 was never officially sold in the US market (though its platform twin, the Lexus IS300, was), importing a BEAMS 3S-GE and J160 transmission requires attention to wiring and plumbing details.

1. Harness & Electrical Integration

• ECU and Igniter: The 3S-GE BEAMS Dual VVT-i relies heavily on its factory ECU, immobilizer system, and integrated igniter pack. Ensure your imported package includes the uncut engine harness and matching ECU.

• Dashboard Integration: If installing into a JDM Altezza shell, it is mostly plug-and-play. For custom swaps into US-spec Lexus IS300 bodies, a custom standalone ECU (such as Link, Haltech, or Adaptronic) is typically required to control the Dual VVT-i system and map the electronic throttle body (ETCS-i).

2. Drivetrain & Clutch Assembly

• Transmission Mount: The J160 transmission utilizes a specific crossmember layout. Ensure you retain or source the Altezza-specific transmission mount insulator and bracket.
