This engine serves as a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

  • Toyota 4Runner (SR5, Trail, Limited): 2012, 2013, 2014

  • Compatibility Note: This is the Dual VVTi version. It is not compatible with 2003–2009 4Runners which utilized the Single VVTi 1GR-FE.

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a seamless swap, professional technicians recommend these "External Swap" steps:

  • Long Block Strategy: You are purchasing the Head and Block. You must transfer your original Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifolds, and Alternator from your USDM engine.

  • Sensor Transfer: Always swap your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors, as well as the Knock sensors. JDM plugs and resistance values can occasionally differ, causing unnecessary "Check Engine" lights.

  • Oil Pan & Pickup: Inspect the JDM oil pan depth. In most cases, the 4Runner pan is compatible, but it is best practice to use your original USDM Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure perfect fitment with your 4WD front differential.

  • Cooling System: We strongly recommend installing a new Water Pump and Thermostat while the engine is out. Use only Toyota Pink Super Long Life Coolant to protect the aluminum internal passages.
