This engine is a direct replacement for the JDM ST246 Caldina and a legendary performance swap for:

If you are swapping this 4th Gen 3S-GTE into an older MR2 or Celica, professional installers recommend the following "Conversion" steps:
Wiring Harness: You will need a Conversion Harness (such as WireGap or Panic Made) to interface the Caldina 3S-GTE ECU with your North American chassis.
Engine Mounts: When swapping into an MR2, you must use your original MR2 Passenger Side Engine Mount Bracket for proper alignment.
Speedometer: Since the ST246 Caldina uses an electronic speed signal from the ABS, you may need to install a Mechanical Speedo Gear into the transmission for older cable-driven speedometers.
Intercooler: The Caldina comes with a Top-Mount Intercooler (TMIC). Most MR2 swappers convert this to a Side-Mount (SMIC) or Front-Mount (FMIC) configuration to clear the engine lid.
Oil Pan: If clearance is an issue in specific chassis, swap your original 3S-GTE Oil Pan and Pickup, though the Caldina pan is generally preferred for its baffling.
Fuel System: This engine uses a Top-Feed Fuel Rail. Ensure your fuel pump and pressure regulator are rated for the 4th Gen's specific flow requirements.
