This engine serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:

• Toyota Tacoma (SR, SR5 Trims): 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

• Compatibility Note: This is the Dual VVT-i version (found in 2016+ models). While it shares the same block as the 2005–2015 2TR-FE, the cylinder head and timing configuration are different. Ensure your vehicle is the 3rd Gen (2016+) before ordering.

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a "plug-and-play" experience, professional Toyota technicians recommend these steps:

• Manifold & Sensor Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, and all Sensors to the JDM long block. This ensures all vacuum lines and electrical plugs match your truck's harness perfectly.

• Timing Cover & Accessories: Check the JDM engine's accessories. It is often best to reuse your original Alternator, AC Compressor, and Power Steering Pump if they were functioning correctly, as they are guaranteed to fit your bracketry.

• Oil Pan & Pickup: Depending on the donor vehicle (e.g., Hilux vs. Prado), the oil pan shape may vary slightly. Most installers swap their original Tacoma Oil Pan and Pickup Tube onto the JDM block to ensure perfect ground clearance and oil capacity.

• Maintenance while Out: Since the engine is out, this is the perfect time to replace the Rear Main Seal, Water Pump, and Thermostat. These are inexpensive "insurance" parts that are difficult to change once the engine is bolted back in.

• Fluid Requirements: Use 0W-20 Full Synthetic Oil as specified by Toyota for the 3rd Gen Tacoma to maintain the efficiency of the Dual VVT-i system.
