This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American W30 Generation models:
Toyota MR2 Spyder: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
Transmission Compatibility: Manual, SMT (Sequential Manual Transmission), and Automatic.
Note: While the 1ZZ-FE was used in Corollas and Celicas, this JDM unit is the most reliable long-block donor for your Spyder restoration.
Since the MR2 Spyder is mid-engined, the peripheral components are unique. To ensure a "Plug-and-Play" installation into your USDM chassis, professional installers recommend the following "External Swap" steps:
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM MR2 Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. The JDM Corolla/Celica versions will not clear the MR2 Spyder’s engine bay or firewall.
Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft, Crankshaft, and Knock Sensors. This ensures the USDM ECU remains "happy" and prevents unnecessary Check Engine Lights (CEL).
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM MR2 Spyder Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not reach the ECU location.
Coolant Neck & Pipes: The MR2 Spyder uses specific coolant routing for the mid-engine layout. Swap all Coolant Necks and Water Pipes from your original engine to the JDM block.
Dipstick & Tube: Because the MR2 engine sits "backwards" compared to a Corolla, you must use your original MR2 Dipstick and Tube for accurate oil level readings.
Oil Pan: Inspect the JDM oil pan; if it differs in shape, swap your USDM pan to ensure proper clearance with the subframe.
