This engine serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:

• Mazda 3 "s" (Sedan & Hatchback): 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009

• Chassis Code: BK

• Compatibility Note: Specifically for the Naturally Aspirated 2.3L. It is not compatible with the 2.0L models or the Mazdaspeed 3 (L3-VDT Turbo) models.

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a "plug-and-play" experience, professional Mazda technicians recommend these "Long Block" swap steps:

• External Component Swap: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, and Alternator to the JDM long block. JDM versions may have different vacuum line routings or sensor plug orientations.

• Sensors: Use your original USDM Sensors (Camshaft, Crankshaft, and Knock Sensor). JDM sensors can occasionally have different resistance values that may trigger a "Check Engine" light on a USDM ECU.

• Variable Valve Timing (VVT): We recommend inspecting or replacing the VVT Actuator and Timing Chain Tensioner while the engine is out. Even with low-mileage JDM units, these are common wear items on the L3-VE platform.

• EGR System: Ensure you reuse your USDM EGR Valve and Tube. JDM engines often have different emissions configurations; using your original parts ensures the car passes local emissions testing.

• Fluid Service: Fill with high-quality 5W-20 or 5W-30 synthetic oil and a fresh Mazda-spec filter. Always use Genuine Mazda FL22 Coolant to prevent internal corrosion of the aluminum block and head.
