Toyota Avalon: 2005–2018
Lexus RX350: 2007–2015
Compatibility Note: This is the Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) / All-Wheel Drive (AWD) transverse configuration 2GR-FE. It is not compatible with the 2017+ Highlander models equipped with the 2GR-FKS Direct Injection engine.
To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your Highlander’s emissions and drivability, professional Toyota technicians recommend the following "External Swap" steps:
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifolds. JDM versions may have different vacuum port configurations or lack specific emissions bungs required for North American OBDII compliance.
Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your Highlander’s chassis bulkheads or fuse box.
Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors. Toyota electronics are highly sensitive; using your original "known-good" sensors prevent intermittent signal issues or CEL codes.
Oil Pan & Pickup: Inspect the JDM oil pan. Depending on the donor vehicle (e.g., Estima or Alphard), you must transfer your original USDM Highlander Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure proper subframe and AWD transfer case clearance.
Water Housing: Swap your original USDM Water Outlet and Thermostat Housing to ensure all radiator and heater hoses align perfectly with your North American cooling system.
