The UA80E 8-speed transmission is a highly computerized component. To ensure a seamless "Plug-and-Play" installation into a USDM RAV4, follow these professional swap requirements:
Transfer External Sensors: You must swap your original USDM Input and Output Speed Sensors from your old transmission to the JDM unit. This ensures the USDM ECU/TCM receives the correct data signals.
Neutral Safety Switch: Transfer your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor) to the JDM unit to guarantee the shift linkage aligns perfectly with your cabin gear selector.
Transmission Wiring Harness: Always reuse your vehicle's original USDM transmission wiring harness. JDM harnesses may have different pinouts that are incompatible with North American software.
Cooler Flush: A complete flush of the transmission cooler lines and radiator is mandatory before installation. Debris from a previous failure can instantly contaminate and damage the replacement JDM unit.
Software Adaptation: After installation, a "Transmission Adaptive Learning" reset via a professional scan tool (Techstream) is recommended to help the TCM learn the clutch engagement points of the new unit.
Fluid Fill: Use only Toyota ATF WS. Check the fluid level at the specific operating temperature required by the factory service manual.
