This transmission serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:

• Toyota Tacoma 4WD (Regular, Xtracab, Double Cab): 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 (Cable Kickdown)

• Toyota 4Runner 4WD (2.7L): 1996–1999 (Cable Kickdown)

• Compatibility Note: Specifically for the 2.7L 3RZ-FE. It is not compatible with the 2.4L (2RZ-FE) 2WD models or the 3.4L V6 (5VZ-FE) models. Please verify if your original transmission uses a mechanical kickdown cable (early models)

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a smooth swap, professional technicians recommend these "External Swap" steps:

• Solenoid & Internal Harness Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM internal wire harness and solenoids to the JDM unit. JDM electrical plugs are frequently different; using your original USDM electronics ensures the ECU receives the correct resistance values and prevents "Check Engine" lights.

• Speed Sensor (VSS): Reuse your original USDM Speed Sensor. This ensures your speedometer remains 100% accurate and prevents any cruise control issues.

• Transfer Case & Flanges: This unit typically includes the JDM transfer case. Ensure the front and rear output flanges match your USDM driveshafts. If they differ, it is often easiest to bolt your original USDM transfer case onto the JDM transmission housing.

• Neutral Safety Switch: Transfer your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor) to ensure your gear indicator and starting circuit function correctly.

• Fluid Service: Flush your transmission cooler lines thoroughly. Fill only with high-quality Dexron III compatible ATF. Pro Tip: Check your radiator for corrosion—replacing it now is the best way to prevent the "Pink Milkshake" coolant-fluid mix that destroys these gearboxes.
