8-Speed Transmission Installation Notes

CRITICAL SERVICE ADVISORY: High-performance Lexus 8-speed automatic gearboxes feature incredibly tight internal tolerances and advanced electronic controls. To protect your investment and secure your parts warranty, your installer must follow these rules:

1. Transfer USDM Electronics & Sensors: JDM core wiring harnesses are configured for right-hand drive (RHD) vehicle body layouts and overseas module communication codes. You MUST swap over your original vehicle's transmission wiring harness, external neutral safety switch, and all input/output speed sensors to guarantee error-free communication with your factory ECU/TCM.

2. Mandatory Transmission Cooler Flush: When a transmission fails, it sheds microscopic friction material and metallic debris into your vehicle's cooling system lines. You MUST thoroughly hot-flush the transmission cooler lines and external heat exchanger before installing this replacement unit. Failing to do so will wash old metal flakes into your clean JDM unit, destroying its intricate valve body solenoids instantly.

3. Seating the Torque Converter: Ensure the included torque converter is fully slotted and stepped down into the internal fluid pump engagement splines before sliding the bellhousing against the V8 engine block. If forced together when misaligned, you will warp or crack the internal oil pump gear.

4. Change Out External Seals: Take advantage of the transmission resting on the shop floor and replace the front pump/torque converter input seal, shift selector shaft seal, and the rear tailshaft output seal.

5. Strict Fluid Requirements: Never use standard or generic automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Refill the unit exclusively with Toyota/Lexus Genuine ATF World Standard (WS) fluid. Using improper aftermarket fluid will lead to premature clutch wear, irregular shift points, and will immediately void the parts warranty. Always check and set the fluid level using the vehicle's factory temperature-overflow procedures.
