Vehicle Fitment

This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American XW50 Generation models:

  • Toyota Prius: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

  • Trims: One, Two, Three, Four, LE, XLE, Limited, and AWD-e models.

  • Compatibility Note: This engine is for the Standard Prius and is not compatible with the older Prius C or the Prius V (check your engine code for 2ZR-FXE).

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

The 2ZR-FXE is a highly specialized hybrid component. To ensure 100% compatibility and a seamless "Plug-and-Play" installation into a USDM Prius, professional installers recommend the following steps:

  • Sensors & Electronics: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft Sensors, Crankshaft Sensor, and Knock Sensors to the JDM block.

  • Intake & Exhaust: Use your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. JDM versions may have different vacuum port configurations or lack the necessary emissions bungs for US smog compliance (PZEV/ULEV II).

  • Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your vehicle's original USDM Wiring Harness and ECU. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your chassis.

  • EGR System: You must transfer your original USDM EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler and valve to the JDM block to prevent "Insufficient EGR Flow" codes.

  • Water Pump: This engine uses an electric water pump. Inspect the JDM pump; if the connector differs, swap your USDM electric water pump onto the replacement block.

  • Flywheel/Flex plate: Ensure you use the dampener plate/flywheel that matches your specific Hybrid Transaxle for proper engagement.
