Technician compression-testing a low-mileage JDM engine at All Star JDM in Chino, California

How We Inspect, Test & Warranty Every JDM Engineط‍

1 min read

Buying a used Japanese engine online comes with one real fear: paying for a "low-mileage" motor and receiving a tired — or water-damaged — core. We built our process to remove that risk. Here's exactly what happens to every engine before it ships from our Chino, California facility.

Why JDM Engines Are Worth Importing

Japan's shaken inspection laws make older vehicles expensive to keep on the road, so engines are retired with far less wear than comparable U.S. units — typically 45,000–65,000 miles. That's the upside. The downside only appears when a seller skips verification. We don't.

Our 5-Step Verification Process

1. Source Authentication

Every engine is hand-picked from vetted Japanese auction yards and dismantlers — no mystery containers.

2. Compression & Leak-Down Testing

We compression-test each cylinder and document the readings. Engines outside spec are rejected, not discounted and dumped on you.

3. Visual & Fluid Inspection

We pull the oil cap and dipstick and inspect for milky residue or rust — the tell-tale signs of water intrusion that burn buyers on other sites.

4. Mileage Verification

We cross-reference auction sheets and physical wear indicators. Read our full guide: How Many Miles Do JDM Engines Really Have?

5. Warranty-Backed Shipping

Every engine ships with a start-up warranty and is crated to arrive secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are JDM engines reliable?

Yes — when properly sourced and tested. Their low mileage and Japan's strict maintenance culture make them among the most reliable used engines available. The risk is the seller, not the engine, which is why our inspection process is public.

Do your JDM engines come with a warranty?

Yes. Every engine includes a start-up warranty. Contact us for the current terms on your specific motor.

Can I verify the mileage myself?

Absolutely. We provide documentation and welcome questions before purchase.

Do you install engines?

Yes — we offer professional on-site installation and swap services at our Chino, CA facility.
